A day in the Hamptons

Marc and I headed to the Hamptons to see how the wealthier half live.  New York has been having some incredibly hot weather so we were looking forward to cooling off at the beach.

We headed out to the very end of Long Island to the town of Montauk.  This is where we decided we would go for a swim and lay on the beach.  We set ourselves up on the incredibly hot sand (already almost unbearable at 10am) amongst the families and leathery older ladies.  One thing, which we found curious, was the distinct lack of people in the water considering the heat.  We soon found out that the reason everyone was on the beach but not in the water was due to the terribly low temperature (around the 16 degrees Celsius mark).

So the water was too cold and the beach was too hot.  All this left to do was head into the town for something to eat and to shop!  All the towns along the way are very cute but all very similar.  Each had the requisite designer stores (I believe I counted five Ralph Lauren stores across two towns) and gourmet cafes.
